Giovanni B. Sala

Giovanni Battista Sala SJ (born April 28, 1930 in Terno d'Isola , † March 15, 2011 in Munich ) was an Italian Catholic theologian and philosopher .

Life

Giovanni B. Sala joined the Jesuit order in 1947 and studied theology at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome and philosophy at the Philosophical Faculty Aloisianum in Gallarate (Fondazione Centro Studi Filosofici Gallarate). In 1961 he was ordained a priest . At the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-University of Bonn , he was in 1970 when Gottfried Martin (1901-1972) with a study of Kant's Critique of Pure Reason and Lonergan's Insight to Dr. phil. PhD .

Since 1971 Sala has taught as a professor at the order's own University of Philosophy in Munich. The focus of his work was the philosophy of Kant and Lonergan .

Twenty years after his dissertation and many specialist articles (as well as works in Italian), his second monograph was published in German: “Kant and the question of God. Evidence of God and Critique of Evidence of God in the Writings of Kant ”(1990), which is still considered a standard work today and is cited internationally. He judged Kant from Lonergan's Aristotelian-Thomistic point of view. Sala was close to the Gustav Siewerth Academy .
