Giovanni Battista Colonna

Giovanni Battista Colonna (* after 1607; † April 8, 1637 ) was an Italian clergyman and Latin ( titular ) patriarch of Jerusalem .

Life

Giovanni Battista Colonna came from the extensive aristocratic family of Colonna and was one of the eleven children of Filippo I Colonna, sixth Duke and Prince of Paliano, and his wife Lucrezia Tomacelli. Among his brothers was the later Cardinal Girolamo Colonna (1604–1666), the older brother Egidio (Carlo) Colonna OSB (1607–1686) was also Patriarch of Jerusalem.

On April 7, 1636 Giovanni Battista Colonna was elected Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem. He was ordained bishop on April 27 of the same year by his brother Cardinal Girolamo Colonna, Archbishop of Bologna ; Co- consecrators were Virgilio Fiorenzi (Fiorentini), Bishop of Nocera Umbra , and Benedetto Landi , former Bishop of Fossombrone . Giovanni Battista Colonna died just a year later.
