Giovanni Benedetti

Giovanni Benedetti (born March 12, 1917 in Spello , Province of Perugia , Italy ; † August 3, 2017 in Foligno ) was Bishop of Foligno .

Life

After his theological training, Giovanni Benedetti was ordained priest for the Patriarchate of Venice on May 26, 1940 . He was assistant for the youth work of the Catholic Action and also worked as a journalist, especially for La Gazzetta di Foligno and La Voce .

He was founded on December 12, 1974 by Pope Paul VI. appointed auxiliary bishop in Perugia and titular bishop of Limata . The prefect of the Congregation for Bishops Sebastiano Cardinal Baggio gave him on 23 January 1975 in the Cathedral of San Feliciano, the episcopal ordination ; Co- consecrators were Ferdinando Lambruschini , Archbishop of Perugia, and Siro Silvestri , Bishop of Luni . Pope Paul VI appointed him on March 25, 1976 Bishop of the Diocese of Foligno . On October 10, 1992, Pope John Paul II accepted his age-related resignation.

At the time of his death he was the oldest bishop in Italy and the fourth oldest bishop in the world.
