Giovanni Chinzer

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Giovanni Chinzer (born September 18, 1698 in Florence , † after 1749) was an Italian trumpeter , conductor , composer and impresario .

Life

Several members of the Chinzer family were mentioned as trumpeters in Tuscany at the beginning of the 18th century . Your nickname " corrazza " (cuirassier), which can be found in some family members as a name affix , could make membership in the Swiss Guard of the Grand Duke of Tuscany appear possible.

In 1719 Giovanni Chinzer became a member of the Music Congregation in Florence. In 1727 his first opera was performed with La serva favorita . In the following years he directed numerous opera performances at Tuscan theaters, his own, but also operas by other composers. For example, the operas L'Issipile by Giovanni Porta in Pistoia and Lucca or Artaserse by Leonardo Vinci in Pistoia. During this time he was mentioned several times as a trumpeter in various performances. In the libretto of his opera Chi non sa fingere sa godere (1738) he is referred to as " maestro di cappella fiorentino, professore di tromba da Sua Maestà Cesarea e da tutto il Sacro Romano ". Then there are other libretti names such as " maestro di cappella della Real Brigata de'Carabinieri di Sua Maestà Cattolica ".

Several of Chinzer's instrumental works were performed at the centenary of the Stadsschouwburg Amsterdam , directed by Antonio Vivaldi . Chinzer stayed in Paris around the middle of the century, where he received a royal privilege on March 11, 1749 for the printing of instrumental works that were engraved by Mme. Boivin. The assumption made by Ernst Ludwig Gerber that Chinzer was in London is considered unlikely. Giovanni Chinzer is often confused with Giuseppe Chinzer , who worked in London and who was possibly a brother.

Chinzer's theatrical works belong to the style of the Florentine commedia per musica , which, however, was gradually supplanted by the popularity of Neapolitan operas. His major instrumental works include the Concerti a 5 op. 8, which follow the example of the works of Tommaso Albinoni .
