Giovanni Valentini (composer, around 1582)

Giovanni Valentini (* 1582 / 1583 in Venice , † 29./ thirtieth April 1649 in Vienna ) was an Italian organist and composer .

Life

Valentini probably received his training from Giovanni Gabrieli . In 1604 he became a member of King Sigismund III's court orchestra . Wasa of Poland. Through marriages between the king and two sisters of Archduke Ferdinand II, Valentini came to the archducal court in Graz . In the court orchestra he was confirmed as a newly accepted camera organist from Poland . When Ferdinand was crowned emperor in 1619, he took his band and the organist Valentini with him to Vienna. In 1629 he became the imperial court conductor and in 1637 Ferdinand III. also taken over as cappelmeister . His task was not only to compose his own works, but also to support and correct the emperor in his compositional work. Valentini was buried in the Michaelerkirche in Vienna .
