Girard Rhoden
Girard Rhoden (* 1961 in Chicago ) is an American opera, operetta, musical and lied singer ( tenor ).
Life
Girard Rhoden grew up in a musical family. He began his stage training at the age of ten, but initially as an actor. His career as an opera singer began at the University of Illinois . At the Opera Illinois in Peoria he was a student of William Warfield . After the master's degree in singing, the young colored singer went to San Francisco , where he sang Belmonte in The Abduction from the Seraglio , Edgard von Rawenswood in Lucia di Lammermoor and José in Carmen Jones .
In 1987 the artist came to Munich with the touring production Carmen Jones . He was engaged for the choir by the Wiesbaden State Theater . This was followed by an engagement at the Münster Municipal Theaters . There he sang ten main roles a. a. the helmsman in Der Fliegende Holländer , Alfredo in La traviata , Prince Orlovsky in Die Fledermaus and Lenski in Eugene Onegin . His repertoire on other German theaters (including in Wuppertal, Lübeck and Darmstadt) included roles such as Tamino in Die Zauberflöte , Tony in West Side Story , Belmonte in Die Entführung aus dem Serail and others. a. m.
Girard Rhoden has been a permanent member of the ensemble at Theater Ulm since the 1995/96 season . There he sang a. a. the title role in Massenet's Werther , Fernando in Mozart's Cosi fan tutte , Count Tassilo in Countess Mariza , Count Almaviva in Rossini's The Barber of Seville , the Nenorino in Donizetti's The Love Potion , Professor Süffle in The Bird Trader , Mario Cavaradossi in Tosca , Ernesto in Don Pasquale , Macduff in Macbeth , the Pinkerton in Puccini's Madame Butterfly and in 2010 Sigismund Sülzheimer in the Singspiel Im white Rößl . The artist worked at the Ulm Theater in the world premiere (2003) of the chamber opera Die Judenbuche , by Günter Buhles , in the roles of speaker of the Jewish community and forest helper.
The tenor, who also likes to sing jazz, has acquired a broad concert repertoire, which includes solo recitals, oratorios and orchestral concerts (e.g. with the Karlovy Vary Philharmonic ) and works by Johann Sebastian Bach and Camille Saint-Saëns , Gustav Mahler to George Gershwin and Cole Porter . Girard Rhoden has been closely associated with the Frankfurt Chamber Opera and the Zwingenberg Castle Festival for many years .
