Giulietto Chiesa (born September 4, 1940 in Acqui Terme ; † April 26, 2020 ) was an Italian journalist and politician ( Italia dei Valori , formerly the Communist Party of Italy ).

Chiesa passed the humanistic Abitur and worked as a journalist from 1981. He reported from Moscow for the newspapers L'Unità and La Stampa . He was later a fellow of the Wilson Center .

Chiesa was initially a member of the National Secretariat of the Communist Youth Union of Italy and was then a member of the PCI party executive in the Genoa section. From 1975 to 1979 he was Chairman of the PCI Group in the Provincial Council of Genoa . Chiesa belonged to the PCI until its dissolution in 1991. In 2004 he was elected to the European Parliament through the independent Lista Di Pietro . In the 2009 elections, he entered the ForHRUL party list in Latvia , but failed.

Chiesa was Truther and spread conspiracy theories about chemtrails and HAARP .

During the 2008 Caucasus War , Chiesa criticized the Western media, saying Russia did exactly what needed to be done. Regarding the Ukraine crisis in 2014 , he said that Ukraine had never been a unified state. In 2016 he received the Bunin Prize in Moscow .
