Life
Orelli was the son of the painter Baldassare Antonio Orelli (1669-1731) and the Annunciata Maria Teresa Tuone. Around 1720 he stayed in Milan as a guest of his grandfather Federico Tuone, who was a member of the Accademia Ambrosiana . As a result, he returned to Ticino, where he married Maria Gerolama de'Leoni in 1742. In 1751 he stayed in Milan again, but later settled in the Bergamo area. In 1768 he returned to Ticino. The workshop in Bergamo was continued by his son Vincenzo Angelo.
plant
As an exponent of the Lombard Baroque , Orelli , who worked in northern Italy and in the canton of Ticino , worked as a panel and fresco painter on religious, historical and mythological subjects. The first known work, a circumcision in the parish church of Arcegno, dates from 1737 . In Bergamo he created a large number of works with religious content for the churches of the city and the parish churches of the surrounding area, but also profane paintings for the houses of the Lombard aristocracy. Mention should be made of the mythological frescoes for the Palazzo Terzi in Bergamo. After 1768 he carried out local commissions, for example the judgment of Paris in the Casa Rusca in Locarno in 1773 and grisaille in the Palazzo Riva in Lugano .
His fresco Angeli musicanti , 1750–1755 can be seen in the cantonal art gallery Giovanni Züst in Rancate .
