Giuseppe Faà di Bruno (born February 17, 1815 in Alessandria , † April 18, 1889 in Rome ) was an Italian Roman Catholic priest and between 1869 and 1889 General Rector of the Pallottines .

Life

Giuseppe Faà di Bruno was born into an aristocratic family. In 1838 he was ordained a priest and in 1844 he was awarded a doctorate in theology . After meeting with Father Raffaele Melia , a collaborator of Vincenzo Pallotti , he decided to go to Rome and familiarize himself with the Association of the Catholic Apostolate . In 1845 he decided to work regularly for the Pallottines and a year later he took his religious vows . Soon after, he was sent to England . There he was spiritual advisor and prefect to the convert of Cheadle and rector of the Pallottine Institute in London . Thanks to his efforts, St Peter's Italian Church in Westminster was consecrated on April 16, 1863, then the largest Catholic church in London. But this led to conflicts with non-Catholics. On March 3, 1869, by decree of the Congregation for Bishops and Religious, he was appointed Rector of the Pallottine House in Rome and Rector General of the Congregation. He fulfilled this function for over 20 years. Above all, he takes care of the training of the next generation of the Order. He founded the first branches in the USA, Brazil and Argentina and in 1887 initiated the process of beatification for the founder of the order at the Holy See.

At the time of his death, the Pallottines had 83 members. Of these, 31 were priests, 40 seminarians and 12 friars who worked in 13 institutions. He died on April 18, 1889 in Rome at the age of 74 and was buried in Campo Verano .
