Giusto Utens (*? In Brussels ; † 1609 in Carrara ), actually Iustus van Utens , was an Italian painter of Flemish origin.

Life

Little is known about his life. From around 1580 he lived in Carrara, where he married in 1588 and died in 1609. His son Domenico was also active as a painter. Utens 14 preserved lunette pictures of Medici villas are his best known work. Originally there were 17. They were painted (1599–1602) for the Villa Medici of Artimino , as a kind of inventory of the possessions of Grand Duke Ferdinando I de 'Medici . After changing locations several times, most recently in the Museo di Firenze com'era until 2010 , the lunette images are now in the Villa La Petraia .
