The Glénan Islands or Glénan Islands ( French Îles de Glénan or Archipel des Glénan , also les Glénan for short ) are an Atlantic archipelago in the Finistère department in Brittany in France .
location
The islands are located about ten nautical miles (18.5 km) south of the town of Fouesnant on the Breton mainland (administrative seat) and consist of nine islands and over a dozen small islets. The main island is Saint-Nicolas. The other islands are Bananec, Loch, Penfret, Drenec (not to be confused with the island of Drénec in the Gulf of Morbihan), Guiautec (also called Guéotec), Quignénec, Brunec (with the dolmen ) and Cigogne.
Further information
The famous French sailing school Les Glénans , which still has its largest base here and uses Fort Cigogne , and the diving school Center International de Plongée des Glénan (French for: International diving base of the Glénan Islands) were founded on the Glénan Islands .
The Glénan Islands are the setting for the novels A very different story by Swedish writer Håkan Nesser and Breton Surf by German writer Jean-Luc Bannalec .
