Glencairn is a small coastal town in the north-eastern Highlands of Scotland in the county of Caithness at the north end of Scotland.

Nearby are the burial grounds of the Highland Chiefs, the gray Cairns of Camster , which date back to around 4,500 years. The signatory of the American Declaration of Independence for Britain , Richard Oswald, is considered an important son of Glencairn .

Many place names in this region, such as Camster , Feswick , Keiss , Lybster , and Scrabster , still bear witness to the invasion of the Vikings , who liked to settle there because of the narrow sea tongues. Many surnames in the region still bear witness to the Viking settlements at that time .

A popular souvenir or fun gift for Scotland fans is the title of a Laird of Glencairn , which can supposedly be acquired by buying land. It doesn't matter how big this piece of land is. With the numerous offers that can be found on the Internet, however, the customer does not buy a land, but only a certificate and a plastic card, because an entry in a land register that is legally effective is not made. There is therefore no actual acquisition of the title of laird (landowner). Rather, a proper laird title is tied to the purchase of an entire estate and is therefore rarely available for less than £ 100,000. The British embassy in the USA therefore felt compelled to warn US citizens against accepting dubious offers.
