Gliese 176 (short: Gl 176 or GJ 176 ), also cataloged as HD 285968 , is a red dwarf in the constellation Taurus, about 30 light years from Earth . With an apparent brightness of 9.95 mag, it can no longer be seen with the naked eye, even under optimal observation conditions. In 2007 Michael Endl discovered an exoplanet orbiting this star with the help of the radial velocity method and is called Gliese 176 b or HD 285968 b .
Gliese 176 b
Gliese 176 b or HD 285968 b is an exoplanet that orbits the red dwarf every 10.24 days at a distance of approx. 0.073 astronomical units with an eccentricity of 0.23. Its mass is estimated to be at least about 0.076 masses of Jupiter (about 24 times the mass of the earth ).
