Glittertind is a Norwegian music project that uses elements of metal , punk and folk and deals with Nordic history , local traditions, closeness to nature and Ásatrú . Occasionally the project is assigned to the genres of Viking Rock or Folk Metal due to the connections between music and lyrics .

history

The founder of the project is Torbjørn Sandvik, born in 1985 . The name Glittertind comes from the second highest peak in the mountain range of Jotunheimen in Norway . According to Sandvik, the name was very appropriate because this part of the country is known as the "heart of Norway".

After Sandvik had already produced a few demos , including the demo album Mellom Bakkar Og Berg released in 2002 via Ultima Thule Records , the independent label Karmageddon Media signed the project for Europe-wide distribution in 2004 . On August 23, 2004, an album was released under the title "Evige Asatro", the songs of which were new recordings of a 2003 demo of the same name. The album received mixed reviews from the trade press and webzines. For example, the German magazine Rock Hard described the music as “penetrating” and “striking”, while the online magazine metal.de praised the album as “a piece of history”. In addition to original compositions, the album also includes interpretations of classic Norwegian pieces and hymns, such as Sønner av Norge or Norges Skaal .

On April 18, 2005, “Til Dovre faller” was released, a 7-track EP dedicated to the Norwegian freedom fighters and the country's hundred years of independence. As with the previous work, the artwork for this release was drawn by Samuli "Skrymer" Ponsimaa, who is also responsible for drawings and the like for his main band Finntroll .

After a long creative break, the album Landkjenning was released on May 29th, 2009 , which can be classified stylistically in the field of folk rock and folk metal . In 2010 Glittertind developed into a full band, which in addition to Sandvik consists of the musicians Stefan Theofilakis (flute, vocals), Geir Holm (drums), Bjørn Nordstoga (bass), Olav Aasbø (guitar, vocals) and Geirmund Simonsen.
