The Glittertind (Eng. "Glitzerzinne") is with 2464  moh. after Galdhøpiggen ( 2469  moh. ) the second highest mountain in Norway .

The Glittertind is located in the northwest of the province of Innlandet on the edge of the Jotunheimen National Park, which makes the mountain an excellent lookout point.

Until 1981 it was considered the highest mountain not only in Norway, but all of Northern Europe . In 1931 he was born with 2481  moh. specified. The ice cap is now on 2464  moh. melted, so that Galdhøpiggen, which was even ice-free in August, now towers above it by 5 meters.

The name Glittertind comes from the East Nordic branch of North Germanic and means something like 'sparkling mountain' or 'shiny glow' due to its many enclosed mica particles , which are an essential part of gneiss.

The mountain can be climbed from two sides. From Glitterheim it first goes up on a path and then over block terrain to the edge of the glacier. Finally, you go over the steep ice walls that also exist in summer . The second path begins at the hut in Spiterstulen. Many trekkers cross the mountain when crossing the Jotunheimen National Park.
