Gloria Castillo

Gloria Castillo (born March 3, 1933 in Belen , New Mexico , † October 24, 1978 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American actress .

Life

Gloria Castillo was born in Belen , New Mexico to a wealthy businessman and attended the University of New Mexico. Her older brother Leo Castillo was also briefly active as an actor. She gained her first experience as an actress in a small theater in Albuquerque , New Mexico. In 1954 she performed in the play Late Love at the Pasadena Playhouse in Pasadena . In the same year she signed with the producer Harry Joe Brown from the MGM contract and subsequently appeared in numerous television series. She played her first cinema roles in 1955 in Charles Laughton's thriller The Hunter's Night and in Joseph Kane's western The Vanishing American . Later she was mainly seen in bigger roles in B-Movies . Often it was a question of cheaply and quickly produced horror or teen films such as Mannstoll und Zonen (1957) or Teenage Monster (1958).

Gloria Castillo married Ellis Kadison (1928–1998), a screenwriter, producer and director. One of her children is the successful singer-songwriter Joshua Kadison . As early as 1960, Castillo largely withdrew from the acting business, only returning in front of the camera again for the film You've Got to Be Smart (1967) made by her husband Ellis . Instead, she concentrated on her own fashion label, which among other things produced skirts. Castillo died of a rare form of cancer in Los Angeles in 1978 at the age of 45 . This inspired Joshua Kadison to write Mama's Arms on his album Painted Desert Serenade .
