Glunz factory in Nettgau

The Glunz AG was as a wood-based material manufacturer known in German-speaking countries. Since the beginning of 2018 it has been operating under the name Sonae Arauco Germany .

history

Glunz AG was founded in Hamm in 1932 as a timber trading company. The company bought its first chipboard plant in 1961 from Greco in Meppen. Glunz then continued to grow through acquisitions of various plants. These included Novopan, Agepan, Triangel, Kaisersesch and Caberboard Ltd in Great Britain.

The IPO took place in 1987. Two years later, Glunz AG built its new company headquarters, the so-called Glunzdorf in Hamm. Further acquisitions took place. Among other things, the companies Aarons Bros. plc (Great Britain) and Isoroy SA (France) were taken over. The plant in Papenburg , however, was closed in 1997.

In 1998 the Portuguese Sonae Indústria Group acquired 85 percent of Glunz AG shares through its holding company Tafisa SA. The new owner launched an investment program in the course of which the plant in Nettgau was also planned and implemented. Far-reaching strategic changes were undertaken in 2001 - the company headquarters were relocated from Hamm to Meppen , the plant in Triangel was shut down and the plant in Nettgau was opened.

In 2005, a squeeze-out was resolved, and the minority shareholders were compensated accordingly. Glunz AG was now 100 percent owned by the holding company and was integrated into the Central Europe division of Sonae Indústria.

In 2006 the activities of the ailing Hornitex Group in Beeskow , Duisburg and Horn-Bad Meinberg were taken over. Investments were also made in a new impregnation plant in Kaisersesch , which was outsourced to the newly founded ImPaper Europe in 2008.

As part of extensive restructuring measures, the chipboard plants in Kaisersesch (2009) and Duisburg (2010) were shut down.

In 2016, the parent company Sonae Indústria decided to enter into a strategic partnership with the Chilean Arauco Group. In this context, Glunz AG was renamed Sonae Arauco Germany .
