The Glurnser Köpfl ( Italian Monte di Glorenza ) is a 2395 m high mountain in the northern Ortler Alps in western South Tyrol . It forms the northernmost summit of the Fallaschkamm , a mountain range beginning at the Stilfser Joch in the south. The Köpfl, which is under protection in the Stilfserjoch National Park , is easy to reach from the surrounding villages and is therefore a popular hiking destination.
Location and surroundings
The Glurnser Köpfl forms the northernmost point of the Fallaschkamm, which extends from the Stilfser Joch northwards to the Vinschger upper reaches of the Etsch . Neighboring mountains in the south are the Plaschweller , with an altitude of 2534 m , and in the further course of the ridge, separated by the Rifairscharte ( 2510 m ), the 2764 m high Piz Chavalatsch . To the east the ridge drops into the Etschtal , to the west into the Münstertal ( Graubünden Romanesque Val Müstair ). The closest places are in the northeast of Glurns , in the north Laatsch , in the east Lichtenberg and in the west Taufers .
geology
The area belongs to the Vinschgau slate zone . The Fallaschkamm, and especially the Glurnser Koepfl consist of the northwestern Ortler Alps and Oetztal Alps characteristic Phyllitgneisen with granite gneiss -Einlagerungen, Granatphylliten and plagioklasführenden Biotitglimmerschiefern .
Tourist development
The Glurnser Köpfl is easy to reach from the surrounding villages. Well-marked hiking trails lead to the summit in just over four hours. The Plaschweller can be reached from the Köpfl in half an hour.
