The church in Wiesentheid

The Gnadenkirche in Markt Wiesentheid in Lower Franconia is the center of the young Evangelical Lutheran community. Today the church is a branch of the Rüdenhausen parish in the dean's office in Castell and is located in Bahnhofsstraße on the edge of the old baroque buildings.

history

Wiesentheid came under the rule of the Fuchs von Dornheim as early as the 16th century . The new village lords introduced the Reformation from 1547 . With the year 1558 the parish was upgraded and got its own parish . In 1673 the market town changed hands again. Johann Otto von Dernbach began to recatholize the community, so that not a single Protestant was living in Wiesentheid soon after.

Only six parishioners are recorded in 1826. By 1939 this number rose to a total of 165 people. Wiesentheid was also looked after from the St. Peter and Paul Church in Rüdenhausen. Even the dead of the community were buried in the Steigerwaldort. The situation did not change fundamentally until 1931: The small community received a prayer room on Geesdorfer Straße.

Due to the large number of evangelical refugees who found a new home in Wiesentheid after the end of the Second World War , the building of their own church was soon discussed. On July 7, 1952, construction of the Gnadenkirche began. It was consecrated by Bishop Hans Meiser in Advent of the same year . In 1977 the parish hall next to the church was added, where parish life takes place today.

description

The church is west. It ends with a simple gable roof . A small rectangular roof turret was attached to the west side. Five rectangular windows on the north side of the building shine through the interior, while in the west a small choir protrudes from the otherwise rectangular building. The church is connected to the adjoining parish hall in the south by a corridor.

Furnishing

The church has only a few furnishings, also due to its recent construction. On the one hand there is a neo-Gothic wooden crucifix by Heinz Schiestl that was hung in the choir. On the other hand, the church received a picture of the Last Supper on its south side, which comes from the school of the artist Giovanni Battista Tiepolo . The church windows were equipped with stained glass. The Rimbach artist Willi Götz created the depictions of "Faith", "Love", "Hope" and "Grace" .
