The church in Greuth

The Evangelical Church in Greuth , Lower Franconia, is the church in the Casteller district. The church was built as the community's schoolhouse. It is on the Bürgermeister-Wolfgang-Brügel-Strasse in the center of Greuth.

history

The Greuth community built a new school and community center between 1702 and 1708. The building was dilapidated after 100 years and a larger building was built on the same site between 1808 and 1811. The builders were the castell masons Hofmann and Lauer. The house was equipped with a prayer room in the left half of the building , which extended over two floors.

The right half of the house occupied the classroom. The village master, a kind of mayor, had his seat above it. The inauguration of the church took place on March 24, 1811. In addition to Count Christian zu Castell , several clergymen from Castell, Abtswind and Rüdenhausen were also present . At the same time, the community received its own cemetery, the dead had previously been buried in the cemetery in Castell.

In 1816 the fair was moved from February 24th to September 12th. The building was renovated for the first time in 1856. In 1890 a new school building was added to the church, in which the students were taught until 1966. In 1963/1964 the congregation renovated the church. A comprehensive renovation took place in 2001. The church is classified as an architectural monument by the Bavarian State Office for the Preservation of Monuments .

architecture

The church presents itself as a simple sandstone block building. It is characterized by the central projection with its restrained structure. The clock forms the center of the risalit . The building is two-story with a row of windows. It ends with a hipped roof . A small ridge was added to the church . The church building is connected to the former school behind it by a corridor.

Furnishing

The pulpit altar forms the center of the furnishings . It was modeled on the one in the Johanneskirche in the style of neoclassicism in Castell. A circumferential gallery is connected to the pulpit. In 1856 an organ from the Bamberg company Geyer was purchased for the first time , which had to be thoroughly overhauled in 1983. Today it is on the gallery.

Shortly before the inauguration, three bells were hung in the roof turret. In 1869 the big bell jumped and was cast by the Klaus Heidingsfeld company. All three had to be given up in the First World War and were melted down. In 1922 new bells came to Greuth. They bear the following inscriptions: "Be happy in hope" (12 o'clock bell), "Patient in tribulation" (11 o'clock bell) and "Stop in prayer" (1 o'clock bell).
