Music style and lyrics

On Goatcraft Torment, the band stayed with their simple, traditional, Nordic Black Metal with lyrics based accordingly on Satanism . The texts also cover topics such as rape, murder and necrophilia . As on her previous releases, her style is not particularly original. The music is aggressive and based on Thrash Metal influences, groove- heavy riffs in the style of Craft and individual minor chords. The album was also described as "located in the intersection of unfiltered raw Black 'n Roll, the usual inconspicuous Norsecore and (surprisingly) rapid citations from the current Marduk era". In addition to these bands, the band has been compared with Immortal , Mayhem and Carpathian Forest , Gathered Under the Horns also with Venoms At War with Satan .

layout

The cover shows the band's lettering, a goat's head and the title of the album in Gothic script and is reminiscent of Venom's Black Metal and At War with Satan .

Reviews

Numerous reviews were concerned about the first words of the title song, "This is Satanic Black Metal" , which were superfluous in view of the design of the album, funny, and added sometimes, no one would Goatcraft Torment John Denver restore or " folk music of the brand Peter Zinsli " expect. They were also amused by the line “Die for Satan” in the chorus of the same song. In the same way, in view of the song title Satanic Black Metal in Hell, the jokingly asked: “Well, what else should be played there, for example James Blunt ?” They also emphasized that the style was not original.

Amikkus from Taakefrost described the title song as "a pleasantly brisk, lyrically but completely stupid opener", which "suggests a certain live potential", but "on record only limited"; this also applied to some other songs, from which "the unpolished, competently implemented sound garment as well as dirty popping songs à la 'Antireligiøs'", which despite all the beefy revolting attitude do not neglect the fun factor, could hardly change anything ". The biggest problem are “filler riffs, which just sound emaciated, frayed and old. Dozens of them have taken their arguable place here in order to drastically shorten the half-life of the sometimes powerful work. So 'Goatcraft Torment' remains interesting for those clientele who do not like deadly serious music and prefer to listen to a cult group rather than mourners. The rest of the band is definitely advised to listen to ' Arma Christi ' as Urgehals' best record. ”The site Norsk Svart Metall described the band as a“ satanic metal machine, well-oiled and completely unconstrained towards their outrageous art ”. Rahn from Deadtide.com was amused by the appearance of Urgehals with a bondage mask, corpse paint , spikes, etc., which he compared to inferior quality horror film costumes. It is a pity that these “immature” props are still de rigueur after fourteen years . Enzifer is "the Black Metal's answer to Pulp Fictions Gimp" (called "Hinkebein" in the German version of the film), while Uruz is "the satanic Flavor Flav ". The band have released a solid album with Goatcraft Torment ; she had done something particularly original here before, but it was a well-structured album. The band never reaches the top of the styles by which they orientate themselves, but neither disappoints nor wavers in view of their technical skills which have matured over the years.
