Carpathian Forest ( English for, Carpathian Forest ') is a black metal - band from Sandnes , Norway .

history

The band was founded in 1990 by Lord Nosferatu and Lord Karnstein (or Roger "Nattefrost" Rasmussen and Johnny "Nordavind" Krøvel). They released four demo recordings . The demos enjoy cult status in the black metal scene to this day. After their demo Journey Through the Cold Moors of Svattjern from 1993, the band received a recording contract with the Italian label Avantgarde Music . There the EP Through Chasm, Caves and Titan Woods was released in 1995 , where an acoustic guitar was used, and in 1998 the debut Black Shining Leather .

Her following albums, where the style was consistently developed, also received a predominantly positive response in the scene. In 2000, founding member Nordavind left the band. In 2003 Nattefrost founded the solo project of the same name , in which, among others, Nordavind is a guest musician . The 2006 album Fuck You All !!!! - Caput tuum in ano est has a higher tempo and is less atmospheric. In 2009 Terje "Tchort" Vik Schei left the Carpathian Forest.

style

music

Rasmussen's influences are mainly in thrash metal , punk and black metal of the 1980s. In contrast to Dimmu Borgir , the keyboard is only used very discreetly. Occasionally, non-genre instruments can be found, for example a saxophone in the song Cold Murderous Music from the album Defending the Throne of Evil and synthesizers in The Cure - Cover A Forest from the debut album.

Texts

The lyrics contain satanic themes and sadomasochism , but also winter and nature on the older albums . However, the band only uses Satanism as a "vehicle for the actual statement". Rasmussen describes Satanism as “children's stuff” and Black Metal not as defined by it, but as a call to individuality, “coupled with an appreciation of our own homeland, of course. But not the people who live there today. ”Nattefrost is a nationalist and takes the view that real Black Metal is“ a localized story ”and“ can only come from Norway ”. In addition, he speaks out against “racial mixing”, but at the same time states that he is not a racist , has black friends and hates all people equally.
