The Godel Ice Port ( Norwegian Godelbukta , Godel Bay ' ) is an 8 km wide ice port off the Princess Ragnhild coast of the East Antarctic Queen Maud Land . It represents a more or less permanent bay that lies at the front of an ice shelf off the coast .
The crew of the icebreaker USS Glacier , who surveyed this stretch of coast during the first Operation Deep Freeze in March 1956 , also made the designation. It is named after William H. Godel, deputy chief of the United States Navy special duties , who helped prepare for Operation Deep Freeze.
