Gody Baumberger

Gody Baumberger (born November 30, 1918 - January 20, 2009 ) was a Swiss sports reporter.

Gody Baumberger reported about 2000 sporting events between the late 1950s and 1980s. Baumberger, an expert in football , ice hockey , tennis and badminton , was the classic live reporter with originality and enthusiasm.

His broadcast on Radio Beromünster of the international soccer match between Switzerland and Romania on May 24, 1967 in the Hardturm in Zurich, where the Swiss 7-1 triumph put Gody Baumberger into legendary enthusiasm (“Stay calm, it's 5-0 , don't roll over yourself. My mother always told me if I get upset, I should count on ten ... ").

Gody Baumberger is one of the great sports reporters of the 20th century in German-speaking Switzerland with Hans Sutter, Vico Rigassi, Sepp Renggli , Jean-Pierre Gerwig, Jan Hiermeyer , Bruno Galliker , Karl Erb , Mario Santi , Peter Hotz and Bernard Thurnheer .

Baumberger appeared on television as a reporter for live broadcasts and summaries. His distinctive voice is particularly remembered by radio listeners. He always "sacrificed" free time and holidays for his commentary work. Baumberger worked full-time as a management adjunct at Coop and later as director of the LVZ department store St. Annahofs in Zurich.

After his retirement, Baumberger remained active as a freelancer for radio and television. Baumberger was married and had two children. Most recently he lived in Zurich- Altstetten .
