The Goethegymnasium Weimar is a grammar school in Weimar . It was named after Johann Wolfgang von Goethe .
history
The Goethe Gymnasium originally goes back to the Weimar Latin School founded in 1561 . In 1670 it received its first school regulations in German and in 1712 it was converted into the Wilhelm-Ernst-Gymnasium Weimar . This gave her the historic school building on Herderplatz. In 1887 the school moved to the building in Amalienstraße, which is still in use today.
After the Second World War , the Wilhelm-Ernst-Gymnasium Weimar became a Soviet military school , from 1951 to 1991 the school was called the Polytechnic High School "Johann Wolfgang von Goethe". In 1991 it was re-established as the Goethe Gymnasium Weimar.
School profile
The school is a generally oriented grammar school, but it differs greatly from other Thuringian grammar schools in that it offers a musical and artistic branch. From the 9th grade onwards, this includes the subject "Representation and Design" with extended music and German lessons. In the upper level, the Goethegymnasium offers a "Representation and Design" course and Spanish as a third foreign language and, through the connection to the Friedrich-Schiller-Gymnasium Weimar, a mathematical and natural science branch with astronomy lessons and extended scientific profiles.
There are also numerous working groups to choose from, including the successful "Youth Debate" course. The Goethe Gymnasium is also home to the internationally known Ant Choir and the Circus Gaudimus .
