The Gokyo Ri ( English Gokyo Peak ) is a 5357 m high mountain in the Mahalangur Himal in the Khumbu region in northeastern Nepal .
Location and surroundings
The mountain is located on the west side of the Ngozumpa Glacier between the two Gokyo lakes Dudh Pokhari and Tonak Pokhari . The summit panorama includes five eight-thousanders on a clear day: Mount Everest , Lhotse , Makalu , Kangchenjunga and Cho Oyu .
Routes to the summit
The summit is usually climbed from the village of Gokyo , which is at the base of the mountain and on the east bank of Gokyo Lake Dudh Pokhari . The ascent to the summit is an easy and evenly steep mountain hike on the south-eastern flank of the mountain and takes 2 to 3 hours, whereby usually only the slightly lower pre-summit is climbed.
Gokyo Ri Trekking Trail
The summit is the end point of the Gokyo Ri Trekking Trail . This trail is part of an alternative, slightly longer route on the southwestern route to Mount Everest . The trail branches off from the Everest Base Camp route in Sanasa . From Gokyo Ri it leads as Phorche Pangpoche Trail to Pangpoche , where it meets again with the Everest Base Camp Route.
