The Goldberg is now a largely forested mountain of the Falkener Platte in the (north) west of Thuringia . It lies within the boundaries of the Treffurter district hawks in the northwestern part of the Wartburg district , also in the Eichsfeld-Hainich-Werratal . At the north-eastern tip of the mountain there is an open pasture area with a panoramic view of northern Hainich with Haineck Castle and the Mihlaer Werra Valley . It borders on the municipality of Nazza . The mountain plateau has a summit height of 379.8 m above sea level. HN and was extensively cleared in the Middle Ages, field terraces and vaulted bakers can still be seen in the forest. Currently splintered areas on the oak wood are still used as pasture and some gardens and orchards on the southern slope. In an easterly direction, the nature reserve joins in the area of the former Probsteizella.
The southern slope of the Goldberg drops steeply towards the Werra valley. The edge of the valley, which served as a collision slope, formed the rock section known as the Falkener Klippen after the last Ice Age. The national road L 2108 leads over the northern slope from Nazza via Falken to Treffurt.
