Goldborn is a district in the Paffrath district of Bergisch Gladbach .
history
The name Goldborn was chosen based on the old name In der Goldbonne , which is recorded in the original cadastre in the area of today's Goldbornstrasse. In 1444 the name of the settlement was first mentioned as Goldborn.
etymology
The basic word bonne is a synonym for born (= source). The term gold often denotes a place in field names where gold or fool's gold, that is pebbles or pyrite, was found. The latter is possible in this area because there were corresponding pits in the wider area in which pebbles are known to be found. A second possibility would be that there was a spring here with excellent water quality, which was given the name Goldborn in the figurative sense.
