The gold egg fritillary ( Fritillaria aurea ) or gold chess flower is a species of plant from the genus Fritillaria .

features

The golden egg fritillary is a perennial herbaceous bulb plant that reaches heights of 10 to 15 (rarely up to 18) centimeters. The leaves are blue-green and lanceolate, the upper ones are lanceolate. The tepals are colored golden yellow and have a pale red-brown checkerboard pattern. The outer tepals measure 20 to 48 × 5 to 9 millimeters, the inner ones are 9 to 15 millimeters wide.

The flowering period extends from April to May.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 24.

Occurrence

The gold egg fritillary occurs in central and southern Turkey in juniper forests, on patches of snow and on north-facing rock ledges at altitudes of 1800 to 3000 meters. It usually grows on lime.

The golden egg fritillary is rarely used as an ornamental plant in rock gardens.
