List of domestic dogs

The Goldendoodle is a hybrid dog from the United States that results from crosses between Golden Retrievers and Poodles . The name Goldendoodle is made up of the parts "Golden" (from Golden Retriever) and "-oodle" (from poodle; English for poodle); the letter "d" is an analogy to the Labradoodle .

The Goldendoodle is not a dog breed in the strict sense and is therefore not recognized by the FCI or any other larger cynological organization.

Origin and history

Goldendoodles have been bred in North America since the late 1990s . Today there are other breeds, for example in Australia and Europe. The background was - similar to the Labradoodle - the breeding of an "allergy-friendly" dog, which is supposed to be better tolerated by people with an animal hair allergy . Investigations on the fur of these dogs could not confirm this claim: The amount of allergen in the fur of Goldendoodles does not differ from that in the fur of other dogs. According to current knowledge, a hypoallergenic dog does not exist.

description

F1 Goldendoodle

Crosses between Golden Retrievers and Standard Poodles (“Standard”) as well as crosses between Golden Retriever and Miniature Poodle (“Miniature”) are carried out. There are different ways of breeding Goldendoodles, which are referred to as F1, F1B and F2B. An F1 dog is a cross between a Golden Retriever and a Poodle, an F1B dog is a cross between an F1 dog and a Poodle or a Golden Retriever, and an F2B dog is a cross between two F1B dogs.

Health

The Goldendoodle has a genetic predisposition to progressive retinal atrophy (PRA) that is simply inherited as an autosomal recessive trait and is based on a mutation of the PRCD gene. A genetic test is available.

In the literature there are also references to a dominant renal dysplasia caused by mutations in the Cox-2 gene and to idiopathic chylothorax as case descriptions .
