The golden Mormon tulip ( Calochortus amabilis ) is a species of the genus Mormon tulips ( Calochortus ) in the lily family (Liliaceae).

features

The golden Mormon tulip is an autumn to spring green, perennial herbaceous plant that reaches heights of 10 to 50 centimeters. This geophyte forms onions as persistent organs. The leaves are linear, slightly blue-green in color and 20 to 50 centimeters long, the basal leaves are preserved at flowering time.

The flowers are nodding, closed and deep yellow in color. The outer bracts are 10 to 15 millimeters long and spread out, the inner 16 to 20 millimeters long and ciliate.

The flowering period extends from June to July.

Occurrence

The Mormon Golden Tulip occurs in northwest California in open forests and bushes at altitudes of 100 to 1000 meters.
