history

The history of the Hannover Golf Club has its origins in the Hannoversche Rennverein , the horse racing organizer and operator of a racetrack in Hannover, founded in 1867 . During the Weimar Republic at the end of the German hyperinflation in September 1923, the latter put a 9-hole course into operation near the Große Bult racecourse and joined the German Golf Association .

During the time of National Socialism , the status as a department of the Hanover Racing Club was given up in 1937 and the Hanover Golf Club was founded by former members, which was then entered in the club register as an independent association .

During the Second World War , the golf course was used as a flak position against the air raids on Hanover . After the city of Hanover was occupied by American troops, the site was confiscated and had to be "used [initially] for growing vegetables and potatoes on the instructions of the British occupying forces". It was not until 1946 that the golf club was re-established and in 1949 it was re-entered in the club register. In the years of reconstruction , instead of the old site in 1951, a new 9-hole course was put into operation near Garbsen , on a 29 hectare site within Garbsen Switzerland leased by the state forest administration . The golf course was designed by the golf course architect Bernhard von Limburger , while the clubhouse was built according to plans by the architect W. Kühne . Ten years later, in 1961, it was expanded to 18 holes.

In 2019, the complete renewal of the 18 greens took place while at the same time maintaining the specified game operations throughout the year on shortened courses (with a new DGV rating for the duration of the renovation phase). Two new ponds with 530 square meters and 4,300 square meters were also created.
