BMW International Open, professional golf tournament on the European Tour

The BMW International Open is a tournament of the PGA European Tour and was held annually until 2012 in GC Munich Eichenried except for 1994, 1995 and 1996. Since 2012 the tournament has been held at Gut Lärchenhof in Pulheim near Cologne on an annual basis.

During the BMW International Open, the course consists of a combination of all three existing courses and presents itself as a 72-par course with a length of 6,366 meters. A total of 2 million euros in prize money will be distributed, of which the winner of the tournament will receive 333,330 euros. The 2001 winner, John Daly , achieved the best overall tournament performance to date with 261 strokes, 27 strokes under par. The only German winner of the tournament is Martin Kaymer, who in 2008 was allowed to throw the trophy in the air. An average of 60,000 spectators follow the performance of the professional golfers in a tournament week, making the BMW International Open the largest golf tournament in Germany.

Golf & nature

In 2005, the German Golf Association (DGV) developed a self-binding management system for golf courses under the name "GOLFf & NATUR", which includes both quality and environmental aspects. The "GOLF & NATUR" program contains all relevant aspects that contribute to ensuring quality in the management of a golf course and the environmentally conscious use of natural resources. Depending on the scope of the measures taken and their sustainable introduction over a certain period of time, there are certificates in bronze, silver and gold. While the DGV still awards bronze independently, the silver and gold status must be confirmed by an external, independent company.

"GOLF & NATUR" is an instrument for a systematic, structured, holistic and demand-oriented quality concept in order to document the entire spectrum of operational processes of a golf course in a sustainable and future-oriented manner. The standards of a golf course are recorded, measures to improve standards are implemented and recurring independent audits certify a target-compliant improvement of standards. For those responsible for a golf course, this means transparency in order to make processes more effective, more cost-conscious and more sustainable. The focus is on: quality, inventory protection, sustainability and legal security. GC München Eichenried has been participating in this program since 2010. In the first year of participation in "Golf & Natur" Eichenried received the bronze certificate, silver in 2011 and gold since 2012. The most prominent measure in the context of this award is the sponsorship of world-class golfer Marcel Siem for the nesting box of the endangered songbird redstart .

A total of 103 bunkers, numerous water hazards and 12 employees are in action on the facility, which is presented as a parkland course (as of 2017). Mentoring and partnerships are further points mentioned by the GC München Eichenried in connection with youth development. In addition, the club has hosted the European Junior Tournament since 2016 . The tournament is part of the World Junior Golf Series (WJGS) and enables world ranking points for the World Amateur Golf Ranking.
