The Golfo Azzurro is a former fishing vessel.
description
The ship of the type "Eurokotter" was built in 1987 as a trawler and put into service as Maarten Cornelis under the Dutch flag ( fishing license : TX-33). It was used for bottom trawling. In 2009 it was equipped with a “SumWing”, with the help of which the trawl net can be kept just above the seabed, so that the seabed is less damaged by the net. As a side effect, the ship's fuel consumption decreases due to the lower drag.
The ship is powered by a four-stroke - six-cylinder diesel engine is the manufacturer Caterpillar Tractor: 1,680 (type 3606 DI TA) kW power driven. The motor acts on a fixed propeller via a reduction gear . The ship is equipped with a bow thruster .
Two generators are available for power generation, each driven by a Caterpillar Tractor diesel engine (type: 3406).
history
The ship was initially used as a fishing trawler off the Dutch coast.
In 2010 the ship came to the Golfo Azzurro Foundation, based in Rotterdam, which brought it under the Vanuatu flag as Golfo Azzurro . The Golfo Azzurro Foundation chartered the ship to the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society , which u. a. in a campaign against the pilot whale caught on the Faroe Islands began.
In the summer of 2016, the ship now sailing under the Panamanian flag was used for a few weeks by the Boat Refuge Foundation, a foundation from the Netherlands, to rescue refugees in the Mediterranean. According to their own admission, the activists saved around 1,500 people.
