The Gomal Pass , also Gumal Pass , connects Pakistan and Afghanistan and it is the only mountain pass that is roughly halfway between the Khyber Pass in the north and the Bolan Pass in the south. It is located in the southeastern part of Waziristan . It got its name from the nearby Gomal River .

The pass route runs along the Gomal River Valley in the North-West Frontier Province of Pakistan. The pass connects the villages of Ghazni in Afghanistan with Tānk and Dera Ismail Khan in Pakistan via Domandi and Kot Murtaza . The pass is an old trade route used by nomadic Afghan traders, the so-called Powindahs, who live between Kabul and Kandahar . The pass was not known until 1889. After the Waziristan expedition that took place in 1894 , British troops took over the area around Gomal.

Nowadays, entry from Afghanistan to Pakistan through this passport is restricted. This is presumably related to the fact that after the end of the centenary Durand Agreement in 1993, in which a border line, the Durand Line was established, Afghanistan was again based on a return of areas of the North-West Frontier Province, the federally administered tribal areas (FATA ) and northeast Balochistan from Pakistan. Pakistan has always refused this return request. Because of this, there is no official border between the two countries today.
