Gomeisa is the name of the star β Canis Minoris (Beta Canis Minoris) in the constellation Little Dog . The name comes from Arabicالغميصاء / al-ġumaiṣāʾ / 'the little one with the cloudy eyes'. However, this name is not related to the name of the constellation and its mythology , but has other origins.
Gomeisa is a main sequence star with an apparent magnitude of +2.9 mag at a distance of 50 parsecs or about 160 light years . Its effective temperature is 11500 Kelvin. Its spectral class is B (more precisely B8Ve), which makes it one of the Be stars . Based on its spectrum , one assumes, like the sun, that it burns hydrogen in helium in its core.
