Gorden Wagener (born September 3, 1968 in Essen ) is a German automobile designer and currently Chief Design Officer of Daimler AG with its corporate brands Mercedes-Benz and Smart .

Life

Gorden Wagener studied industrial design at the University of Essen and specialized in transportation design at The Royal College of Art in London. Before he started at Mercedes-Benz in 1997, he worked as an exterior designer at Volkswagen , Mazda and General Motors. Gorden Wagener currently heads an international team at Daimler AG and designs all of the company's brands and products, from automobiles to the holistic corporate design of all group brands. The focus is on the work of the main brand Mercedes-Benz, under his direction the design philosophy of "Sensual Clarity" was drawn up in 2009, which is continuously being further developed. It defines a modern luxury and embodies with the two forms hot and cool an essential aspect of the Mercedes-Benz brand - the bipolarity of emotion and intelligence. The Mercedes-Benz design language stages highly complex, intelligent high-tech in an extremely reduced and user-friendly manner.

With the current E-Class, which was presented in Detroit in early 2016, he succeeded in completing the first complete generation of Mercedes vehicles, all of which bear the signature of the design philosophy of sensual clarity.

With the introduction of the company's new brand "EQ", Gorden Wagener and his team are now also designing the company's electric vehicles. A corresponding show car was presented as the face of the brand at the Paris Motor Show.

Gorden Wagener is responsible for a large number of Mercedes-Benz models, such as a. the C-Class of the 205 series , S-Class of the 222 and 217 series , the Mercedes-AMG GT , the C190 series, as well as the GLE Coupé (C292) , GLC (X253) , the smart models and the numerous commercial vehicles of the Company : the European Mercedes-Benz product range, the vehicles that are built under the same brand name in Brazil for Freightliner and Western Star in the USA, Mitsubishi-Fuso in Japan, Bharat-Benz in India and Evobus.
