Gordon Bess

Gordon Bess (born January 12, 1929 in Richfield , Utah , † November 24, 1989 in Boise , Idaho ) was an American comic artist .

Gordon Bess joined the Marines in 1947 and was already working as a graphic artist. During the Korean War he was in the mine clearing squad for a year . From 1954 he came to Washington, DC , where he became a cartoonist for Leatherneck Magazine . In 1957 he left the military and worked as a graphic artist, greeting card artist and cartoonist.

In 1967, King Features Syndicate published the first episode of his daily comic strip Chief Fire Eye , which ran in over 100 newspapers and was also translated into other languages. The series also appeared in the French Tintin and the German Zack magazine . In 1988 he gave up work due to illness.
