Gordon Eklund

Gordon Eklund (born July 24, 1945 in Seattle , Washington ) is an American science fiction writer.

Life

Eklund is the son of the dental technician Alfred J. Eklund and DeLois, née Stewart. He served in the US Air Force from 1963 to 1967 and then began writing. In 1969 he married Married Dianna Mylarski, with whom he has two sons. From 1973 to 1975 he studied at Contra Costa College in San Pablo ( California ).

His first story Dear Aunt Annie (German Our dear Tante Annie ) appeared in April 1970 in the SF magazine Fantastic . She was nominated for the Nebula Award and came in 10th place at the Locus Awards . In 1971 a first novel followed, The Eclipse of Dawn . His biggest success was the along with Gregory Benford - with whom he worked in a number of other projects - written amendment If the Stars Are Gods (German When the star gods would be ), the 1974 in by Terry Carr published anthology Universe 4 appeared and was awarded the Nebula Award in 1975. In 1977 a fix-up version was published (German under the title Der Bernsteinmensch ), which was expanded to a novel and won the Locus Award in 1978.

He also wrote two novels in Bantam's first Star Trek series , namely The Starless World (# 6, 1978) and Devil World (# 10, 1979). The Lord Tedric novel series goes back to a story by Edward E. Smith published in Universe Science Fiction in March 1954 , which Eklund rewrote and expanded into the novel published in 1978, the British edition only naming Smith as the author. Three more of these posthumous novel “collaborations” followed.

His fan fiction , for which he won the Fan Activity Achievement Award in 2004, was collected in 2013 in Eklundia Stories: The Complete Fan Fiction of Gordon Eklund .
