Terry Carr

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Terry Gene Carr (born February 19, 1937 in Grants Pass , Oregon ; † April 7, 1987 ) was an American science fiction author and editor.

Life

Carr was an avid editor of science fiction fan magazines that helped establish him later as a full-time editor. Although he wrote and published some works as early as the 1960s, Carr focused on the publication of literature. He first worked for Ace Books , where he developed the series Ace Science Fiction Specials , which later appeared, among others, Winterplanet (later The Left Hand of Darkness ) by Ursula K. Le Guin and Rite of Passage by Alexei Panshin .

After a disagreement with the head of Ace Books, Donald A. Wollheim , Carr worked freelance. Among other things, he published a series of anthologies called Universe , as well as a popular series of Best of the Year anthologies, which were published from 1972 to 1987.

His writings and large collection of fan magazines were included in the Eaton Science Fiction Collection at the University of California, Riverside .

Carr's widow, Carol Carr, is also a science fiction writer best known for her books Some Are Born Cats (1973, shared with her husband) and You Think You've Got Troubles (1969).
