Robert Philip Hoskins (born May 26, 1933 in Lyons Falls , New York ; died June 1, 1993 near Albany , New York) was an American science fiction writer and editor.

Life

Hoskins was the son of builder Frederic M. Hoskins and Irene Hoskins, née Clune. From 1951 to 1952 he studied education at Albany State College and then worked in the family company until 1964. He then became an educator and worked until 1966 as an employee of the New York State Department of Mental Hygiene as a carer in a home for the disabled, the Wassaic State School for the Retarded , then until 1968 in the Brooklyn Home for Children . In 1967 he became a literary agent at the Scott Meredith Literary Agency , 1973 editor at Lancer Books , where he was in charge of the SF paperback series. Since 1973 he has been a freelance writer and editor.

A first short story was published in 1958, but Hoskins was of importance to the SF in the following years as the editor in charge of Lancer's SF series and as the editor of anthologies. The five volumes of Infinity Anthologies (1970–1973) deserve special mention here. From 1972, he began writing novels, first several novels under the pseudonyms Grace Corren and Susan Jennifer, about time travel - Fantasy credit history Evil in the Family (1972), as well as Gothic and Weird Fiction . The novel The Shattered People (1975), set in the distant future, and the three-volume Stars cycle, which tells the story of a group of civilizations connected by jump portals over long periods of time, should be mentioned as SF .

Hoskins died in 1993 at the age of 60.
