Gotha B types

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Gotha B-types of the Gothaer Waggonfabrik were two-seat reconnaissance aircraft of the German air forces in the First World War .

development

In 1914 Gotha developed a double-decker with a 120 hp in- line engine , which was given the factory designation LD7 and which Idflieg classified as Gotha BI .

The B.II (factory designation LD10) differed significantly from the BI: the wings were larger, the fuselage shorter and a rotary engine was installed. Gotha went back to an earlier concept for the B.II: Gotha had built a two-seater named LD1 as early as 1913, which was powered by a Gnôme rotary engine with 100 hp.

commitment

18 BI were delivered and used as a reconnaissance aircraft until 1915, then as a training aircraft. The B.II, of which 10 were built, was used as a trainer aircraft.
