Gottfried Christian Pingeling

Gottfried Christian Pingeling (born February 19, 1688 in Leipzig , † November 3, 1769 in Hamburg ) was a German engraver .

Life

Pingeling was the son of a tailor from Leipzig. He became a student of the engraver Martin Bernigeroth and followed the engraver Christian Fritzsch to Hamburg between 1719 and 1723. He married in Hamburg on January 25, 1724. From this marriage the son Thomas Albrecht Pingeling emerged in 1727 , who also became a copper engraver in Hamburg and from 1751 practiced the profession together with his father. The workshop of the two was classified by as the "most important" in the second half of the 18th century in Hamburg. They provided illustrations and title vignettes for books and occasional writings, maps, cityscapes and portraits. After Pingeling's death, his son continued the workshop with his student Johann Thomas Hagemann .
