Thomas Albrecht Pingeling
Thomas Albrecht Pingeling (born August 19, 1727 in Hamburg ; † July 16, 1803 there ) was a German engraver .
Life
Pingeling was the son of the copper engraver Gottfried Christian Pingeling, who immigrated to Hamburg from Saxony . He became effective in 1751 as an employee of his father, with whom he worked until his death in 1769. Thieme-Becker classifies their workshop as the most important of the second half of the 18th century in Hamburg. The workshop provided illustrations and title vignettes for books and occasional writings, bookplates , maps (such as the product map of Europe by August Friedrich Wilhelm Crome ) and nautical charts (such as for the Hamburg captain Cornelius Martin Wohlers ), city views and portraits. After the death of his father, he continued the workshop initially alone, then together with his student Johann Thomas Hagemann . Pingeling also worked for foreign clients in London and Saint Petersburg , according to the income book he received for the period from 1775 to 1793 .
