Gottfried Wilhelm Locher (theologian)

Gottfried Wilhelm Locher , also Gottfried W. Locher (born April 29, 1911 in Elberfeld ; † January 11, 1996 in Bern , entitled to live in Zurich) was a Swiss Reformed pastor and theologian . After graduating from high school in Elberfeld , he studied Protestant theology in Königsberg (Prussia) (1930–1932), Zurich (1932/33 and 1935/36) and Bonn (1933–1935). He then completed the vicariate at the Neumünster Hospital in Zurich and, after ordination, was initially pastor in Binningen (1936–1941). He then worked as a pastor in Feuerthalen (1941–1954) and in Riehen . In 1948 he received his doctorate as Dr. theol. and from 1954 was a private lecturer at the University of Zurich . In 1958, he was appointed to the University of Bern as full professor for systematic theology and the history of dogma. From 1968 to 1969 he was rector of the University of Bern. The research focus of Locher was with the reformers, especially with Huldrych Zwingli , on whom he had a doctorate. He published "Theology of Huldrych Zwingli in the light of his Christology" in three parts: "The Doctrine of God", "Christology and Last Supper" and "The Christian Life".
