Gottfried von Eulenburg , also Gottfried zu Eylenburg (born August 10, 1598 in Gallingen ; † November 9, 1660 ) was a Prussian statesman .

Life

Origin and family

Gottfried was a member of the Prussian line Gallingen of the Lords of Eylenburg . His parents were Botho XIII. zu Eylenburg (1549–1629) and Elisabeth, née Truchsess zu Waldburg-Capustigall from the Wildenhof family († 1611). Gottfried married Katharina von Heydeck (1614–1644) in 1635 . The son Botho Friedrich emerged from the marriage but died of the plague in 1657 .

To distinguish from Gottfried the Elder zu Eulenburg († after 1652) to Orlau and Tolksdorf, the captain of Rastenburg , Gottfried was also mentioned in 1649 as the younger. Apparently, however, both people are mixed up in the literature. He is still often referred to in literature as a baron . However, the Prussian barons Eulenburg on Gallingen received until 1709 their pertinent ennoblement .

Career

Eulenburg was the heir to Gallingen, Kinkheim and Pletnick , as well as other estates . He was district administrator and governor of Brandenburg . On November 14, 1653, he was promoted to senior councilor and also held the dignity of senior castle count. Since February 10, 1654, he was the Landhofmeister in the Duchy of Prussia and is said to have also been Chancellor . In 1659 he was retired from his offices. He was buried in Gallingen.
