Gotthard Hubrich

Gotthard Hubrich (born April 6, 1930 ; † 1990 ) was a German major general in the People's Police and head of department in the Ministry of the Interior of the GDR .

Life

Hubrich learned the trade of a saddler. In 1950 he became a candidate and in 1955 a member of the SED . After studying from 1959 to 1962, which he graduated with a degree in political science, he worked as deputy chairman of the interior of the Quedlinburg district council . From 1966 to 1970 he completed a correspondence course at the Humboldt University in Berlin with a degree in law.

In 1970 he went to the Ministry of the Interior of the GDR as deputy head of the Internal Affairs Department. From 1972 to 1990 he was its director. In 1982 he was appointed major general. From 1953 to 1984 he was led under the code name Red Sailor as an unofficial employee of the Main Department VII of the MfS . With Gerhard Lauter , Hans-Joachim Krüger and Udo Lemme, Hubrich was involved in drafting the travel regulations of November 9, 1989, which then resulted in the opening of the inner-German border and the fall of the Berlin Wall.
