Gotthilf Weber

Gotthilf Weber (born September 14, 1900 in Großgartach , Württemberg ; † May 29, 1987 in Stuttgart ) was a German Protestant pastor , member of the Confessing Church (BK), helper for the racially persecuted and publisher of the magazine The Voice of the Congregation .

Life

Weber studied Protestant theology after obtaining his university entrance qualification . In 1925 he was employed as a religion teacher in Heidenheim . After his ordination he became pastor in Haiterbach in 1928 . In 1931 he became managing director of the Evangelical Volksbund Stuttgart. In 1933 he worked at the regional office of the Evangelical Community Service in Stuttgart. Here he got in contact with members of the Confessing Church, which he joined. From 1934 to 1935 he was a member of the presidium of the Confessing Synod Bad Oeynhausen for the Württemberg and Bavarian regional churches . From 1935 he was a member of the Reich Brotherhood Council of the BK and deputy of its President Karl Koch . In 1936 he officiated as a pastor in Schwenningen with an official assignment as a student pastor in Stuttgart . In doing so, he gave shelter to the Jewish victims of the Nazi regime and helped many to flee across the border. In 1947 Weber became dean in Göppingen . From 1950 to 1967 he worked as dean in Stuttgart-Bad Cannstatt .

Gotthilf Weber was one of the editors of the bi-monthly magazine of the Confessing Church, The Voice of the Congregation , which he helped found. Weber took part in the work of the Christian Peace Conference (CFK) and was one of the participants in the II. All-Christian Peace Assembly (ACFV) in Prague in 1964 .
