Gottlieb Felder

Gottlieb Felder (born March 3, 1866 in Gossau , † April 4, 1950 there , reformed , entitled to live in Kappel ) was a Swiss historian .

Life

Gottlieb Felder was born on March 3, 1866 as the son of the primary school teacher Johann Felder in Gossau. He graduated from high school and secondary school in St. Gallen . After doing apprenticeships in the Toggenburg region, Felder then taught German, French and history at the Talhof girls’s secondary school in St. Gallen from 1896 to 1931. He was also a board member of the Swiss Castle Association and the Historical Association of the Canton of St. Gallen.

The castle researcher Gottlieb Felder, known as the “castle father”, is the author of the standard work The Castles of the Cantons of St. Gallen and Appenzell, published between 1907 and 1942, and promoted the preservation of these buildings. Gottlieb Felder, who remained unmarried, died on April 4, 1950 at the age of 84 in Gossau.
