Gottlob Engelhard von Nathusius (* May 7, 1838 in Hundisburg , † April 28, 1899 in Weimar ) was a Prussian district administrator in the province of Posen , police director of the city of Posen and police chief .

Life

He was the eldest son of the animal breeder Hermann von Nathusius and his wife Luise, geb. Bartels and had four siblings, including the later Dillenburg master stableman Hans von Nathusius and the heir to the Hundisburger estate, Joachim von Nathusius (1848–1915). Nathusius grew up on his father's estate, Schloss Hundisburg .

On April 26, 1871, he married Anna, born in Bialokosch, Birnbaum district . Freiin von und zu Massenbach (1850–1937), a daughter of the local manor owner Georg Freiherr von und zu Massenbach and Sophie, née. from Gemmingen-Steinegg. The couple had five children, some of whom died early. The daughter and future artist Gisela Luise Elisabeth von Nathusius (born February 13, 1872 in Orlowo) married the widowed Prussian Lieutenant Colonel Ernst Wilhelm Ludwig von Sommerfeld (1847–1922), a son of the Prussian Lieutenant General Wilhelm von Sommerfeld , on July 18, 1906 in Weimar (1801–1871) and cousin of Major General Ernst von Sommerfeld ; she died on September 5, 1934 in Weimar.

Career

After completing his legal training, he left the traineeship in May 1862. He became a farmer and bought the Orlowo Estate (today Orłowo) in the Obornik District (today Inowrocław Municipality ) in what was then the province of Poznan (now in the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship ). He built a manor house there. On December 1, 1890, he was granted honorary citizenship by the magistrate and city councilors of the city of Obornik in view of the services acquired for the city.

After selling his estate to Bruno Gottschling, Nathusius was appointed district administrator in the Obornik district in 1880 as the successor to the later chief president Heinrich Konrad Studt , after he had previously held the office as administrator. In this role he worked for 10 years. This was followed by a job as police director of Poznan, which he had to give up in 1897 due to a serious illness. Upon retiring from active service, he was awarded the title of Police Commissioner. After saying goodbye in Posen, Nathusius moved with his wife to Weimar, where he died in 1899.
